An award-winning Natural Burial Ground within the rural countryside of Mid-Wales providing Woodland and Meadow burials
A place to rest in peace
Hay Meadow Burial Ground is a unique natural, green burial ground situated amongst the Radnorshire hills in rural Mid Wales, offering both meadow and woodland burials. A secluded peaceful location offset from a country lane. The Glas Brook flows through the family farm in the valley beneath, surrounded by 7,000 acres of hills, a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) which is home to a vast array of wildlife, heather and native fruits such as winberries.
The family run burial ground continues to be farmed and grazed by our flock of sheep, with the meadows providing a crop of hay each year for the sheep to feed in the winter. Adjoining to the Hay Meadow, Busnant Wood is being created following a native tree planting plan.
The land is not consecrated; we welcome any faith, religion or belief. Arrangements can also be made for graves to be blessed, therefore making Hay Meadow Burial Ground suitable for everyone. You can decide how you would like your service to be; as simple or as traditional as you wish. Plots can be pre-purchased, singly or as a family group.
As a Natural Burial Ground, we welcome biodegradable, non-toxic coffins, shrouds, and ashes caskets/urns.
We do not permit non-degradable linings or plastic handles. People can be buried with possessions like letters and jewellery, but these must be made from natural materials.
Our new shelter is available for funeral gatherings, as well as our wooden bier at no additional cost. Ample onsite parking and toilet facilities are also available, in addition to picnic tables and benches where you are welcome to sit and look up towards the hills.
Individual requests will always be considered.
We are members of the Association of Natural Burial Grounds which was established by the Natural Death Centre in 1994 and follow a Code of Conduct that governs our site and the way we deal with burials. We are one of only four approved members in Wales.
